Pineapple!

We had been keeping an eye on our pineapple patch. It’s 15 rows of about 15 plants each. We knew they were almost ripe.

Marlyn and I went down the hill to check them earlier in July. Knowing that several could be ready to pick, I offered to take a wheelbarrow down there. Marlyn said no. We were only going to check on them. “I’ll only pick one”, she said.

You can believe that if you want to.

Later, the ranch crew went down and harvested 3 sacks of pineapple.

This was not really enough to sell, but it showed us that pineapple would thrive here. Some of this was eaten by us and the ranch crew. Some was given away as gifts. And some was put up as pineapple preserves.

The success prompted Marlyn to expand the project. She bought about 2,000 pineapple tops from a place in the mountains north of us. The crew has already begun planting them.

We might need a bigger truck next year.
